The Elusive Triatomic Hydrogen

Triatomic hydrogen can be found in many places in the galaxy. It is especially abundant in the atmospheres of Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. A few places on Earth also contain this simple polatomic molecule. In the crytal structures of a few metals the molecule occupies some of the space within the lattice. Study of the molecule suggests that the formation of triatomic hydrogen is very difficult. For a conception of the molecule one must envision three molecules of hydrogen, two attached by a filled orbital with two electrons and a third attached by one electron. The molecule has a plus charge normally.
