Through the study of mathematics and higher sciences, I have found a constant derivation of sciences. I have learned that the basis is simple algebra. From there we see that physics is applied algebra and chemistry is applied physics. Each preceding step holds the basis of the next. Chemistry has grabbed my attention. The complexities that it holds are unfathomable. There is so much knowledge that has to be learned in just this field alone. The fact that this knowledge is grounded in all of the other knowledge that I have built up since I began my education is mind blowing. This is something that I certainly must understand.I decided to take the honors chemistry section at Augustana college because it seemed like a challenge. I thought that I might like it, considering that my major is composed mostly of chemistry. We went through experiments and demonstrations everyday in class and those demonstrations always intrigued me. I found myself trying to figure out why they occurred and how I could reproduce them myself? I felt my jaw drop as I learned of the the structure of an atom and the quantum theory that explains it. I saw the molecules picture in my head and it totally infatuated me. My goals for the future are surrounded by my dependence on chemistry. I have pictures and ideas in my head that are waiting to be explained more by the education that I will receive. These ideas are my driving force and the honors chemistry class that I have so lucky to participate in is adding more fuel to the fire.
Chemistry is applied to everything is this world, as I have been lead to believe. The applications of chemistry are endless. Industry constantly uses chemistry to transform our raw materials into useful resources on which our economy is based on. Even the understanding of the smallest molecules and particles helps us understand the big picture of how our universe works. Chemistry is probably the most useful medium that I have found so far.
I believe that what I have learned has connected my education to my life. Everyday I use things that were produced chemical. Everyday I think of chemical processes and uses for them. I understand how they work and how to use them for my advantage. I am now eternally grateful to my chemistry honors class.
